Bicycle Pet Carriers

There are two types of bicycle pet carriers, ones that attach to the back of the bike and ones that have their own wheels and have an arm that attaches to the back of the bike. Each has their own advantages and disadvantages. The latter is always more expensive because it has its own wheels which need hardware, however these can double as baby carriers and extra storage space very easily.

Bicycle pet carriers that attach to the frame of the bicycle are better suited for much smaller dogs. Unlike a regular pet carrier these should be very snug and not allow the animal to move around very much because it could throw off the person riding the bicycle. There should be plenty of secure straps as well as ventilation and the unit should be bolted to the bike, never strapped or tied.

Bicycle pet carriers are ideal for longer rides where the animal may get tired on the long trip. Roads can quickly wear down the dogs pads on their paws turning them into a grimy bloody mess. Too far and they might not be able to walk any further until they heal. Letting them ride most of the way is a great way to prevent this.
